St Francis of Assisi 50th Anniversary
On Sunday the 1st of October the parish celebrated 50 years of worship in St Francis of Assisi. We thank Bishop Joseph Toal for presiding at the Mass with Father Tom Devlin, our parish priest, and former parish priests Monsignor John McIntyre and Father Viv Hayes. Our thanks also to Deacons Michael Meechan and Joe Gallagher for their service and to our servers and master of ceremonies. Our thanks also to our musicians from the St Francis of Assisi Church Choirs and St Francis of Assisi Primary School Choir.
The church was very busy for this special anniversary with our regular weekday and Sunday Mass goers but also by many others with links to the parish from over the years and indeed back to the opening of the church 50 years ago. It was also lovely to see so many young children at the Mass who represent the next generation of the parish community.
Holy Mass concluded with Bishop Joseph blessing our new Franciscan Cross, specially commissioned for the 50th Anniversary and created by Blazena Dzurjanikova, an iconographer from Slovakia, who travelled to Scotland to see her creation finally in place.
We hope you enjoy looking through our photographs of the occasion and invite you to come to St Francis of Assisi Church and join us for Holy Mass.
